Brightening Up A Gloomy Winter Day...

After Christmas... when all the decorations have gone... my house seems sad...
The sky is dark and gray... and the inside of my house feels just as gray... (Am I the only one that feels this way?)  In an attempt to part the clouds and bring the hope of spring...  I gave my mantel a spring face lift...
Back for round two... I brought back in the branch I hung in the window during the fall...
First I placed this vintage spring print... already the clouds are starting to lift...
Then I started to decorate the branches... with odds and ends... why not?
I among the bells, keys, and watches... I also added a couple birds that traveled all the way from England with a friend...
Every mantel should have a least a couple family photos... so I tucked a couple into the branches...
My favorite things on the branches are the baby shoes(these are my Dad's... the white pair is mine)... especially this one that I made into a birds nest...
This simple decorating project... was a much needed lift to my spirits...  Now I can make it through the gloomy days outside...  because I have captured the promise of spring on the inside...

Inspiration From The Movies... Rosemary's Baby... Part 3

And the wheels just keep on turning...
I have been having so much fun recreating the clothes(shown here... and here) Mia Farrow wore in Rosemary's baby... which just goes to show you can find inspiration just about anywhere...  For my next piece I decided to tackle another one of her mini dresses...
I love the umpire waist... and mix of lace...

I recreated the look with a cream fabric... and antique lace...

Pretty cute... if I do say so myself....
I used a simple button closure...
An easy wardrobe staple... today I wore it with a sweater, scarf, and booties...

While I still may be getting the sideways looks... when I tell people the inspiration for my wardrobe takeover...  I am pretty pleased how it is turning out...  It has also been a fun challenge to see how I can update the pieces... with a more modern flare...

Happy Sewing!

Sharing the love...

Valentine's Day is here again...  And this year with a little help from Pinterest...  I started with a sneak attack...
The weekend before Valentine's Day, I started posting valentines on my families bedroom doors...  Adding a couple every day... with the top ten reasons why I loved them...
Then for the big day... I knitted them these cup cozies, and appliqued felt hearts on to them...
And yes... I incorporated skull and cross bones with a v-day twist...
Some how everyone in the family... (but me)... think they're cool... so I went with it...
I got the cozy idea from here...

The table seemed a little bare so I spruced it up with some fake rose petals...
To go along with my mason jars and cake plates...

For school I found this cute idea... but didn't have the time to print and cut out the cute card...
So we made do... with index cards and foam stickers...  and my sons handwriting...(which I think is more special anyway)

Since Valentine's Day fell on a Thursday this year... I wanted  to do a little something special for the ladies that volunteer with me on Thursdays at my children's school...
So I knit them each a cup cozy too!(In my spare time a.k.a... 2am)... and brought in coffee for everyone...
They were so surprised... and well worth it!

That is how I shared my love...
(with a little help from my friend... Pinterest)

Inspiration From The Movies... Rosemary's Baby... Part 2...

For those of you that have been following me... you know this has nothing to do with the baby!  It's all about the clothes... And if you subscribe to my brand of crazy, your going to love the latest addition to my wardrobe takeover(recreating the clothes Mia Farrow wore in Rosemary's Baby)...
I can't be the only one who loves this shirt, because if you Google Rosemary's Baby+red shirt... it instantly pops up!
Here's my recreation...
I think it comes pretty close to the original...
The pictures don't really show the print... It is a sheer cream fabric, with red circles and green dots...
I love the flat front of the original shirt... so I used snap closers...
It is not very apparent but she is also wear a thin neck tie with the shirt...
So of course, I had to make one too!
Today I wore it with a cropped knit jacket and jeans...
I'm on a roll with my wardrobe takeover... What shall I do next?
