Friday's Findings...

It's been a while since I've posted any finds from my weekly foraging... going from estate sales to garage sales looking for treasure...  Here are my deals and steals...

Super cool 70's chandlier... $3...

Super excited about this book I picked up for .50...

Straight from the 70's it's a master pattern book... for just about anything you could ever want to sew...

It still had all of the pattern making materials
attached to the back!

I haven't had a chance to play with it yet... but the step by step instructions don't look to overwhelming...

Necklace... It's plastic... but I like it anyway... $1...

Another $1 necklace find... and believe it our not I hemmed and hawed over buying it... until someone snapped some sense back into me by pointing out... "Hey!  It's only a $1!!!"

Never one to resist... BUTTONS... $1 and .25

More fabric for my collection... each $1...

I love digging through old things...  I'm a treasure seeker to the core...  I enjoy making up a history for items in my head...  and peering into the past...

Sew What! Day 7...

Well today is the last day of kid clothes week, and I determined to push through... finishing my third outfit for the week!  Wow!  I feel so productive this week... Not only did my daughter get some new Fall clothes, but I only used things I already had (some for years!)... so it did not cost me anymore out of pocket.  It pays sometimes to be a hoarder (he he he).  So here is the last outfit, and a review of what I did this week...

The shirt...

Vintage buttons add a nice touch... and I love the rolled cuff with a tab...

These are simple leggings... but I gathered the side...

Here are all three outfits on Violet...

Outfit #1  Dress trimmed with Ric rack and ribbon...



Outfit #2  Ruffled top... skirt with pockets...





Outfit #3  Tunic top... and gathered legging...

Thanks for following me this week, and your support... Kids clothes week was fun!  I will definitely do it again...  Even though this challenge has come to a close... check back in with me soon, because I'm always up to something...

Putting some Fall in my wordrobe...

My favorite part of the week is Friday... this is the day that I can unwind, enjoy a cup of coffee, and search for treasures...



This week I found a vintage velvet jacket... just in time for Fall...





I paid a whopping $6 for it... who says fashion has to be expensive?

   

The only thing I didn't like were the buttons... 

So I switched them out with some black vintage glass buttons...

Makeover complete... sometimes it's the little things that make a big difference!

***The second piece for Fall that I put in my wardrobe was a sweater vest...

I am in love with this seasons trend... layering lacy slips with sweaters...

I started with this vintage 70's pattern... 

 



I had just enough of this vintage sweater knit to cut out for the front...





But, I had to use this plain red sweater knit for the back...




  

To give more detail to the belt, I layered lace over green seam tape(on top of the red belt pieces) and then zigzag stitched it down... encasing the green tape down the middle...

 

After it was completed, I felt the belt was to bulky to tie... so I improvised a bow closure instead...

Snaps ensure it stays put...

 

I could not wait to wear this with my vintage slip(Grandma's)... paired with my beloved rain boots made it a fun and functional outfit... Love the mix of frilly and rugged... I've been known to be described as eclectic, but I don't mind if that means I get to have fun with my clothes... 

So, I challenge you to take look at your wardrobe this week... bring out those long forgotten slips, and layer them with sweaters...coats.. or over sized shirts.  Have a jacket or dress you never wear?  Try changing out the buttons, for a completely new look... I try every season to inventory what I have... sometimes it just takes seeing it in a different light, to make it new again...
